My cat, Oberon, has been sick for about a year now. We found out last summer that he has diabetes and thanks to the help of some of you, we were able to get him treatment. He takes insulin twice a day and it has helped. Unfortunately, it hasn't entirely solved the problem. While he has done better on the medicine, he has still been very ill - thin and weak. We have cared for him the best we could but realise it is only a matter of time. Or was.
We haven't seen him all weekend. He isn't likely to stay away by choice. He is usually demanding food and under foot. Sunday I checked with the neighbors and put missing cat signs up in the area. No one has seen him. He has been four days without his medicine and there no sign of him. I am believe my cat is dead. I would like to have at least been able to say good bye and would still like to at least be able to bury him.

When a cat knows it's their time, they just want to be away from their loved ones, and find a quiet place alone where it can end with their dignity intact. So while my human side feels bad that you can't mourn properly, my feline side is glad that he ended things right and proper.
