Love Songs for Mothers and their Children
Apr. 19th, 2006 04:19 pmIt probably says a lot about my relationship with my mother and my child that many of my favorite love songs are about written by women to either their mothers or their children.
Here are some of my favorites:
You and Me Against the World by Helen Reddy
Icicle Blue by Holly Near
Mother, Mother by Chris Willaimson
Lullabies by Cozy Sheridan
Child of Mine by Carole King
There are also other songs which are not specifically written as such but are ones that I think of that way:
Devoted to You by The Everly Brothers (works for most love relationships for me and I have sung it to my mother)
You Are My Sunshine (unknown) My mother has sung this to me all my life, and I have sung it to Rowan all his life.
Do you know other songs like these? Are there similar ones about fathers?

I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again..."
It's my understanding James Taylor originally wrote that song for his dad's funeral.
