Mead: Inquiring minds...
Mead: I'd love to know more about it. Back in college, with a no-liquor rule, my roommates and I tried it, knowing nothing except "fermented honey", in a gallon jug with a wine valve. I recall that it worked much better with a handful of raisins in the jug (for 'healthful vitamins and minerals'?); and when it worked, it came out tasting something like sweet sherry.
Would you share your recipe and experience? For example, what honey-water proportions? Do you boil the honey, or the mix? (I've heard that's done to denature antimicrobial substances the bees put in the honey.) What yeast? Does anything go into it but honey, water and yeast? (Come to think of it, what honey do you favor?)
I'd love to hear what it tastes like -- and to look forward to another area visit, and maybe sampling.
