I am Yours - Love, Shame and Acceptance
Feb. 13th, 2005 01:53 pmYesterday, I posted the lyrics to "I Am Yours" by Tracy Chapman. I have been thinking alot about what those lyrics and the scenes in the novel that they seem to mirror mean to me. I realize that for me, real love isn't just loving someone who is at their best. Real love, that true amazing love that is the stuff of dreams and the daily life of the lucky, is someone who you love and who loves you even at your worst. There is no shame, no failure that can shake that love.
Here is a quote, first said in Chapter 11 (Blood and Ice) from Leeahlm to Allaahtba, but then repeated back to him by Allaahtba in Chapter 15 (Surrender):
There is no part of you I would not drink. There is no feeling you have that would shame me. I am yours and I trust you. But as much as that, you are mine and you must trust me. There is nothing of you that I do not want. I need it all.
The response: I am yours.
