Amazing! Good news!
Sep. 25th, 2004 09:04 amThe last couple days have been a whirlwind of surprises:
First, my mom
redhatmary's birthday was Thursday. Her surprise was a visit from her brother Dixon and sister Janie. We managed to pull of the surprise and they are having a blast while they visit for four days. Very loud around here but funny. (Believe it or not, I am quiet by my family standards.)
Next, I got a call from one of the people who have been interested in buying my bookstore. He has the money and wants to pick up the books and begin the transfer on Sunday! I also sold some of the collectibles I have in storage to someone else. That means that I will have about six months income to work with while I write.
Then, I received email from my mentor at the Univ. of Iowa. She is upset with me for dropping out. But she is willing to work with me to complete my dissertation and PhD. I have until spring to turn in the first draft of my dissertation. I will have to "defend" in the fall. That means that I should be completing my PhD in one year!
Nervous but happy that I have a chance of rebuilding my career and realizing that I will be spending the next six month writing and writing. Then, fantastic news!
airshipjones got the job he wanted! It is a great salary, good benefits and he starts on Tuesday. Just in time before his unemployment benefits ran out!
uncledark also had a phone job interview this week. We are hoping that his turn in our collective luck will mean that he too will get the job he wants.
If this all works out, we may all three be working in the fields we have received our Masters degrees in! We may actually have the money to pay our bills and have money to do things again. I am almost afraid I will wake up and find it is a dream!
