Livejournal is NOT PRIVATE

A recent livejournal discussion that included my loggin name and first name brought up privacy issues for me again. Please be careful with what actions you associate my name in this VERY PUBLIC forum.

FOR THE RECORD: The law does not recognize livejournal, email or any other information on the web as protected by the right to privacy. Any and all posts made to livejournal can be used in court. Friends-only or other such posts do not protect you from such invasion. Anything published here can be and might be used in court. A friend of mine had her and her friends's livejournal posts used against her in a custody battle.

REQUEST: Please do not endanger my child's safety by putting sensitive matter about me in your journal in any way that can be linked to me.

I don't believe it is necessarily careless. Some people don't know that it isn't private. I didn't for a long time. Some of us are happy innocents.

Says me, who thought she was careful about it and is going to go back and check the last few days worth to make sure she didn't goof!

Good point; careless was probably not the right word to use. Naive, perhaps would be better. But still, in this age, one must assume that *anybody* will read your journal.
