Dee was never one to sit still for long. She buzzed like a bee. Mom called her a gecko. I always thought she was like a hummingbird. Such intense energy. I spent a lot of time around her this year. I would sit at her table and feel like I was going in slow motion. She whirred and buzzed and talked so fast I couldn't keep up. It was comforting in a weird sort of way.

Of course, a body that didn't work wouldn't hold her long. She let it go in the night. Not content to wait until they turned the machines off. Thank you, Dee. Such a kindness to take that awful decision away from the family.

We were all infused with that energy last night. We couldn't sleep. It was such a restless household last night. Tired as we were, none of us could sleep. At 4 AM -- I was on the computer downloading old songs, Mary was telling stories about Dee, Terry was playing a computer game, Alura & Mark were up talking, even Troy woke up in the night. Funny, the only one who seemed to be able to sleep was Lon, who had only met Dee briefly. Then somewhere around 4-5 it shifted. We got the call just before 6 AM. A powerful woman has left the world.
