Long Good Weekend
We had a great weekend. Of course, that means I'm paying for it now. I seem to have a cold I can't shake and my joints are in a lot of pain. Rowan is being very good, sitting here playing while I dictate this.
Thursday, we drove up to Sonoma County to visit Lon's mother and pick up his sister and her two kids for a visit with us. Rowan likes going places in our new van. It is big and comfy -- we all fit very well. And Rowan likes the fact that he can watch movies on the TV/VCR on the trip. When we got there, there was a bit of excitement when Teri's little dog bit Troy on the leg. After the dog was secured, we had a lovely visit talking with Teri. Then we packed up Meghan and her two girls for the trip back to San Leandro. The kids were very quiet as they watched a movie on the way back. Rowan got along very well with his two cousins Mattie and Sophie (ages 5and 4). He is such a big brother whenever their little kids around. He's very kind and gentle with them. They had a great time playing when they got home. The grownups had a great time talking.
The next day we all went to Marine World Six Flags. It was a wonderful day. The kids were beautiful and nice and so sweet. Everybody had a good time. Rowan even went on a couple roller coasters with his dads. He even dragged me on a couple water rides. We all got soaking wet. We ate funnel cake and cotton candy. Lon took lots of pictures with his new digital camera. Of course, we were all exhausted by the time we got home.
Saturday morning we got to go to a Kid Power workshop. The two hour workshop teaches kids how to be keep themselves safe. The kids had a lot of fun with it. Then Megan and her kids had to go back to granny's house. Us rabbits went back to our house to clean it and to rest before the party that evening. Troy had homework and didn't go to the party. I dropped uncledark and Rowan off at House Weirdness, and then went to visit my mom who is now in the hospital near me. Kindred Hospital is in San Leandro. Then I joined them at dawnd's birthday party. I was very tired and sore after the day before's adventure but I enjoyed the party. Rowan seemed to enjoy more than anyone. He swam and swam and swam. Then Allegra got to come over for sleepover at our house which lasted well into late afternoon the next day. At one point they dressed up as a dragon and wizard for part of their play acting.
In addition to seeing old friends. I was also lucky to make a couple new friends. I had a long talk with somebody I really connected with. Parties can very confusing for me with so much noise and so much going on, so it is nice when I can go to the side and have a nice long chat.
Sunday the kids were so good that I was able to rest a bit. After we took Allegra home, Rowan and I visited Mary in the hospital. She started telling Rowan and I a lot of stories from her childhood. It always makes want to get out a tape recorder and work on her biography. I am reading a mother-daughter biography of a civil rights activist. I've always wanted to write a mother-daughter biography about my mother's activism and life. Now that I have the voice dictation equipment, I may have been a better chance at doing that.
I had trouble sleeping last night and stayed up most of the night entering books into my bookstore database. My sales have dropped recently and I need to adjust prices and enter new books. I like selling books but it does take some work to keep up with. Also I would like to spend more time writing. Today I'm tired and sore but enjoying my time with Rowan. He and his daddy airshipjones plan to practice guitar, do the dishes, mow the lawn, and go bike riding. An ambitious plan if I ever heard one.
I hope to get my book orders out and then rest before visiting mom.
