Weekend update
Mar. 1st, 2004 12:16 pmWell, it was interesting and mostly fun.
We arrived at
darkmoon's house, and she bleached my hair. Couldn't find a purple dye that wouldn't turn to pink, so we went with the blond look. I like it.
Had dinner with:
uncledark,
darkmoon,
evilgeek and Melanie. Just about when we finished dinner we were also joined by:
tyrsalvia,
tiggrrl and
devafall.
Dinner was good and I was pretty bouncy. Only problem was that the place gave me the wrong order and nearly poisoned me. I ordered garlic frys, but they delivered some covered in fresh chili pepper. I am extremely allergic. I was so distracted that I didn't notice until I had swallowed my first bite. Then the alarms went off. I had to rinse my mouth out so my tongue didn't swell. Problem is that I spent the rest of the night feeling that one bite makes it's way through my body. I was still feeling swollen and sore yesterday. A note to those who didn't know: I very allergic to all types of bell and chili peppers.
Back to
darkmoon's place to change clothes and then off to the concert. Really enjoyed the music and the chance to be out again. Emotional stuff behind the cut: I find that being around people who smoke doesn't just trigger my allergies, but also my insecurities. For most smokers, it is a social thing and I feel extremely excluded. I don't even have the option of hanging out with them while they smoke or I will end up in the emergency room. (No, that is not said for drama -- it has happened several times when I did try.) I don't want to be around smoke, but I absolutely hate be left out of the conversations! It reminds me of the social isolation of junior high. Yecch! (Note to self, being around someone who smokes really sets off all my triggers.)
So between the chili burning my belly, my lungs closing from the smoke drifting in the door and off people's clothes, and the ostracism burning my nerves, I was actually pretty uncomfortable most the evening. Focusing on the music helped me escape and it felt good to be there. But only as long as the music was playing.
I went back to Tammy's house for the night. Tammy is my sister/cousin. She was asleep when I got in and had to leave before I got up. But I got to spend some great time with Charles (my friend, her husband), Terry (my nephew), Alura (my niece), and Mark (Alura's boyfriend). It was the most comfortable I was all weekend and it felt good. Finally, the young people had to go off to their jobs and Charles needed some sleep (he works nights).
Eventually, I made my way over to show up about an hour before the official start time of
tiggrrl and
devafall's housewarming. Talked with them while they set up. Enjoyed the party. Had some of the same issues I had the night before but relaxed as I made friends with some people who didn't spend half the night poisoning themselves and others.
I especially had fun with a weird game played for the later half of the party. Melanie and I were playing as a team which added a lot to the fun of it for me.
When the party finally wound down, my hosts were lovely to me, making up the futon and tucking me in. Felt good. Slept pretty soundly -- for a few hours -- until the alarm got me up at 7:45 AM! Had to pick up
uncledark from
darkmoon's house and get him to work on time in Oakland. I was in a great mood and feeling pretty secure, confident. Drove him to work, got home and promptly ran out of energy.
I was suppose to go to a meeting/party in the city and then to visit friends at House Dreamland. I lay down for a short nap and didn't wake up until a cell phone call work me around 5 PM. Damn. Guess my body just isn't strong enough to make it through a full three-day adventure yet. Sorry to those I stood up. I wasn't even conscious enough to call...
