Dark, Cold and Wet

I almost forgot to get my special lights out and found myself sitting here overwhelmed by the gloomy day. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] uncledark, all the lights, including the extra full-spectrum ones, are now set up and glowing in my room. For those who don't know, I have trouble with depression to begin with, but the winter is really bad. They call the phenomena Seasonal Affective Disorder. Add to that that cold weather makes the aches in my body, especially my leg, worse, and you can see why I am not fond of winter. Oddly enough there is also a weird thing with the rain. Almost everyone else I know likes the sound of rain. The sound drives me nuts. As in, anxiety attacks from the sound. I don't know why I am afraid of rain, but I clearly am.

So the rain comes down and I am trying to focus on my writing. I am in the middle of rewrites on an original book I am working on for publication. If all goes, well, the book will be submitted before the end of the year. (Hopefully sooner.)

Also, in the good news category. I got my hair done and my ears re-pierced. Self care is good.

There's new breakthroughs in SAD treatment, if you ever want to hear about them. I've really learned how to manage the condition so well it seems like I hardly have it anymore.

Well, I would be VERY interested to hear what you have learned.

*hugs* Sorry I haven't been able to visit more in the last few months. This schedule is annoying that way.

What did you do with your hair?

Congratulations on getting your original draft done... and good luck with the rewrites, SAD-notwithstanding.

Awesome! So right before I got married, went away on honeymoon, and then came back to several weeks of Jewish holidays, I suggested getting together to chat writing sometime. I am still up for doing so at a time mutually convenient, if you're game. :-)

Yes, self-care IS good. Glad to hear your ears are re-peirced.

Forgive me for coming to this late, but do you also take anything for depression, during the low part of your cycle, or does the lighting system work well enough for you so that you don't have to add anything else? I ask because I had a difficult time finding something to stabilize my cycling, without accidently pushing it in the wrong direction. As somebody with bipolar, type 2, it was tricky to find the right combination. As it turned out, lamictal was a life safer. I also take a low dose of seroquel. I'm grateful so many new medications have been developed because each person's brain chemistry is so different.
