Dealing with Death
Nov. 7th, 2006 11:38 pmToday, our lovely six-month old kitten, Sable was hit by an auto and killed. We spent the evening (and over $1000) in the vet emergency center. He was alive and crying when we brought him in but the internal injuries were too great for him. He was a delightfully loving, sweet, playful cat. He was stunningly beautiful, his first was impossibly soft, he liked to kiss with his lips and he was well loved.
We honored our beloved dead tonight. So many this year, Cynthia McQuillan, Leah Anne Hussey, Eric Rofes, Fritz Klein. Lon’s grandfather, Merrill Sarver.
fairieboy’s great-grandmother and family friend as well. And
airshipjones’s mom is in the end stages of cancer.
We placed Sable in a basket and wrapped him in a silk scarf. He looked so peaceful. He seemed like he was sleeping and would wake up at any moment. But we will never see his blue eyes again. We petted his fur and said goodbye. We passed the Samhain candle around the circle of friends and family as spoke to those remembered. The candle burns on the altar.
Thursday, we will drive to Santa Cruz to bury Sable at Cat’s Cradle in the redwoods. Our ex has very nicely extended
fairieboy’s time with us until Saturday morning.
We love you.
