Where Have I Been?

Right here actually. Just not reading or posting to LJ much. Several reasons...
First, I have been depressed. Mostly, not the end of the world, so sad thing. More the listless, nothing looks interesting kind of depression. Probably made worse by or triggered by the same thing that made my fibromyalgia flare-up. What was that? There are certainly several contributing factors including our boy leaving and
airshipjones being without a job. He has only had part time contracts in the last month. That leaves us very very broke.
Second, speaking of broke. My keyboard broke. Not only have we been broke, we haven't had the money to replace things that have broken -- like my keyboard!!! I use a wireless keyboard with my laptop. Laptop keyboards suck. My list: 1) key scrunched or in the wrong place, 2) touch pad in the way so that it accidentally goes off, 3) they keys are not at the front of the board, so I have to stretch my arms to reach them thereby making my shoulders, arms and wrists hurt, 4) the laptop gets to hot for my lap, and 5) the cord on my laptop won't stay in properly if it is jostled which happens when it is in my lap. Sigh. What that means is that I keep waiting for a new keyboard. We finally found a inexpensive replacement for the one that died and it should be here by Monday.
Some good things have been happening...
Last week, we hosted the organizational meeting for the Ancient Ways Festival. It went very well. There is now a basic board of six offices and lots of volunteer positions in the committees. We didn't make it out unscathed though.
uncledark is now Chair of the Board and I am Communications Officer. Yeah, on a board again For most of my life from age 13 until I became ill a few years ago, I spent a lot of my life on various boards and committees. Usually more than one at a time. I like organizing things and have a knack for it. So I did a lot of volunteer work.
On Thursday, I was a guest speaker at the Lavender Seniors luncheon in Oakland. The talk went well and I sold several copies of a couple of my books. I also got a royalty check from my publisher. It wasn't a lot of money in either case, but when people buy my books or talk to me about my work, it makes me more enthusiastic about writing.
Today I helped celebrate my mom's birthday by taking her garage sale and thrift shopping. It was fun and I got yet another cat tea pot and some Laurel Burch cat earrings.
Unfortunately,
uncledark's grandfather died yesterday. He will be flying back to Kentucky tomorrow, the funeral is Monday and he will return home late Wednesday. Yes, he was born and spent the first ten years of his life in Kentucky, then Iowa after that. So most of his family is in Kentucky. The good news is while there he will get to see his sisters, nieces, dad, grandmother and other relatives.
If you want to see me, give me a call, or IM, or email. I have time to hang. I haven't been much for large gatherings but I like hanging out one-on-one or in small groups.

Date: 2006-09-24 04:23 am (UTC)You need to ask us about these sorts of things, Thomas has a gazillion computer parts all over the place. How is it broken? Does the receiver part still work? If so, he may have a keyboard. Oh, and you did check to make sure that it's not the battery, right? :)
Email or call us.
