In the Spring of 2004, a Canadian film crew came out several times to do a focus on our family for a series now entitled, "Modern Love." Our segment was the third in a six part series. Ours was on polyamory. The piece was produced by Media Headquarters and aired on W Network in Canada on Sept. 4, 2005. (For info on the series: http://modernlove.tv/) The shows producers are now looking to find a US network to air it. (We will let you know if we hear about that.) Unfortunately, they had forgot to notify us about the Canada showing and didn't send our copy until a called a couple weeks ago to find our what was happening with it.

The segment itself -- well, it is fantastic. I have never seen any media on polyamory handle it with such grace. Instead of trying to explain all relationships, Jari and her crew worked on putting together profiles of women (focus of the W Network parameters) who had chosen alternatives to traditional ideas of marriage. Each piece is a mini-documentary on a family who have made a choice -- lesbian couple, transgender MtF & wife, gay man and straight woman, etc. We were the segment on polyamory. They combined footage from days worth of shooting with us in 2004 as well as out-takes from both [livejournal.com profile] airshipjones and I's original wedding in 1988 and our commitment ceremony with [livejournal.com profile] uncledark in 2000. They have us going to the farmer's market together, interviewed and working around our house, a tea party, and with our son. The segments included footage of [livejournal.com profile] fairieboy, as well as Victoria and Alegra. Because of the Tea Party and the wedding out-takes there was also footage of friends and family including [livejournal.com profile] dawnd, [livejournal.com profile] weirdocatdragon, [livejournal.com profile] darkmoon, [livejournal.com profile] occicat & more. [livejournal.com profile] redhatmary even got to say her now infamous "she needs 10" husbands quote. It tells the story of how we got together, why we live together and even a very careful and sensitive approach to the custody problem. The footage is beautifully cut and the visuals are nice. The piece is only 22 minutes & 45 seconds long and yet covers a lot of material. I am truly amazed.

When and where can you see it? Well, it won't be out on any kind of video or dvd until after a US release, if then. We will be showing the film here to friends and family. If you are interested in attending a community showing hosted by us, let us know.

P.S. Those local newspaper articles that same out last month? Well, we have found links to them all over the net. Seems several Pagan and alternative groups really liked mom's piece in particular.
