Rabbit Warren Salon this Sunday, Oct. 16

You are invited to a monthly Salon hosted by Rabbit Warren. This will be a potluck social and special events night held every third Sunday evening each month at our roomy home in Hayward.

"The salon is a 17th century French idea, a gathering of stimulating and attractive people of quality under the roof of an inspiring hostess, partly to amuse one another and partly to refine their taste and increase their knowledge through conversation and readings, consciously following Horace's definition of the aims of poetry, 'to please and educate' (aut delectare aut prodesse est)."

In honor of Coming Out Day (earlier this week) and in light of some great conversations lately, we are making this month's discussion theme: Sexual Identity, Labels and Community. Are you straight, bisexual, gay, lesbian, queer, transgender, poly, or ....? What do these words mean to us? Are you part of a communty or communities that are based on these identifications?

People may show up at 6:30 if they like, dinner starts at 7. There dicussion until 9 and possibly socializing until 11. We welcome and encourage people regardless of sex, gender, race, sexual orientation, age, class, disability, size, tradition, etc. If you have a disability and would need accommodation, please contact us so we can make sure things are comfortable for you.

To participate in the potluck, you will need to bring:
1) A dish of food and/or drink to share. We ask you put a note with the food detailing ingredients for those with food restrictions. (If you buy it, bring the label.) Meat is okay, but please clearly mark it for those who prefer not. Please keep in mind that these events will be drug and alcohol free.
2) A plate and flatware set to eat from. This is so we don't use up a lot of disposable paper products or have to do a lot of dishes.
3) Donation requested, $2-5 each. No one turned away for lack of funds.

Please RSVP if possible. We like to know how many people to expect.

We're hinged on two things....1. Whether I'm/we're well enough by then and 2. The status of invites for kids. Let me know about #2 and by Sunday we'll know how we're doing with #1.

I need to write something up on this to include in the invite. Kids are welcome as long as they either 1) are old enough to join in the conversation or 2) old enough to play with others in Rowan's room (which we will use like you use the nest), or 3) one of the adults bringing them provides care for them so that they are not disruptive of conversation part of the event.

Your girls would be fine. Victoria was here last time and her dad handled things very well.

Great. Then as long as we're not sick we'll be there. Right now Sarah and I still have gunk and Maddie woke up with it this morning. You never know in this house who it is going to hit hard. *sighs* We'll definitely be there if we can!
