avila klar
Aug. 22nd, 2005 03:55 pmYou may or may not be aware that I have a very strong ability to reach intense trance states. I use this in my spiritual practice and in other aspects of my mental life, including my writing. There are physical techniques for putting oneself into a trance and for bring one out again. Many religions and cultures have recognized these practices. There are lots of ways to induce trance including types of music, breathing practices, chemical substances (drugs, herbs), and other physical practices such as dance, exertion, pain, etc.
Deep trance states often result in physical aftereffects. It can appear as if the person is drugged. When I first come out of a trance, the "real world" does not feel real at all. It can appear distant or overwhelmingly garish. I often have trouble speaking, both in forming words and in actual slurred speech. I am often "light headed" or feel disconnected from my body. There are ways to gently bring one's self (or assist another) in bring the tranced person back into a normal waking state. The deeper or more intense the trait the longer this process can sometimes take.
In addition to my ability to trance, I also have inherited a family trait known as "the sight" – a type of prophetic and/or clairvoyant sense that often results in visions. One form of the visions is "the dreaming" or clairsentient dreams.
Today, I had an unusual experience. I had an intense "clairvoyant" dream that also included a ritual and deep trance. I woke from this dream with all of the physical side effects of a deep/intense trance state. It took many hours to bring myself to near full waking state.
I have never had this particular experience before. To my knowledge, I have never had a full trance while dreaming. Trance states are usually induced either deliberately or by intense physical or emotional response while "awake."
In the dream, a dear friend (who is more family than friend) was very ill and hospitalized. She was dying and the medical people could find out what was wrong or what to do about it. In the dream, our mutual friends took me to a sacred site. I entered the place and felt the deep dark energy of the place. The place was ancient and powerful. There I began trance dancing. In the midst of trance I began to speak in tongues. That is, I began to speak eloquently in a language I do not know. I understood in the trance that this language is very old and is the language of the spirits/gods of the place. When the trance "ended," I was taken back to the hospital where I was still more in altered state than awake. I kept chanting a phrase from the trance – avila klar. I could feel the power and magic of the unknown words. Something in the energy shifted and the medical people were able to find an obscure treatment for the illness of my friend.
(There is a lot more details in the dream than this but I am saving them for the moment.)
I woke feeling drugged and unaware, and still chanting. I had slept for more than twelve hours even though I had not taken anything to help me sleep last night. (Usually required because of my fibromyalgia and resulting restless leg syndrome.)
I tried looking up the words from the dream. Hard to do given that I did not really have a spelling. Most web searches seemed unhelpful but two stood out. Apparently there is an old celtiberian sacred site called Avila in Spain. And under "Klar," I found two references: First, as a name there is a female name Klar that is celtic/gaelic for "chapel or shelter." And the German klar means "pure, beautiful or clear."
I don't know if the meaning of the words is linked to those or what they do mean. I do know the words are important.
