Arrived in Washington
Jul. 29th, 2005 04:06 pmWe actually made it on the road by 11 PM last night. The goal was to leave right after Karate class which ended at 9 PM. Of course, this miracle of making it out on time was mostly due to
uncledark's planning and hard work of getting everything packed while we were at class.
faireboy and
uncledark slept while I drove the first eight hours.
I enjoy long distance night driving. It puts me in a wonderful trance-like state. We made good time and I completely reworked a short story idea I had several months ago. I have the entire plot and most of the scenes in my head now. It is basically a murder mystery involving a were-leopard character. I feel very good about the new story and hope to type it up this week, maybe even get a start this weekend.
So around 7 AM,
uncledark took over the wheel and I went to sleep (and dreamt more about the story). We stopped around 9 AM for breakfast and found some strange "Remember When" booklets about previous years that tell us about the price, news and other details about each year. We bought one for each of our birthdays. I would love to have the whole collection. Very useful for writing time travel stories.
When we got to Tacoma, I took the wheel again and we pulled onto the ranch at 2:30 PM.
uncledark unloaded the van and went to sleep. I spent about a half-hour doing yoga, did some puttering around and then read livejournal. (Better connection here than at home since our DSL is still down.)
fairieboy played a video game and has now gone out to play on the trampoline.
airshipjones flys in tonight. Our hosts,
ocicat and
lady_equine are still at work and we are really looking forward to spending time with them. Unfortunately, this is a very brief visit. We have to be back home Monday morning. Both the guys have work and our boy has Drama Camp.
If you want to understand a bit of why coming up here every summer is so important to us, you should read this post by
ocicat.
