I thought yesterday was difficult. Heat, plans gone awry. Today was a mess.

To make a long story short, the van broke down leaving me stranded in the heat with [livejournal.com profile] fairieboy and [livejournal.com profile] redhatmary on our way to pick up fairieboy's friends and go to the movie. No movie. Van towed. Transmission and alternator shot. The cost will will be at least $2000-3000 and it will take a week to repair.

Thanks so very much to [livejournal.com profile] thats_ms_dragon for the big rescue! So at least all the kids had fun playing today. And thanks to I was able to rest a bit after the dramatic mess. Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] deedeebythebay for her flexibility. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] zpdiduda for the ride home. We are home safe.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] fairieboy is doing very well in both karate and guitar. He practices outside of class too.

He also has a list of chores each day which he does without much coaxing or complaining. He takes pride in checking things off the list. He keeps his body and room clean and helps out with other things around the house. I am well aware that this is very unusual for children his age. Most have the worst time keeping their rooms clean.

Have I mentioned that my mom, my son and my husbands are wonderful? They are a source of strength and comfort for me.

Get a second opinion before you pay the money! Recently I was told that my 6 year old car would need a new transmission and it would cost $3000. I smelled something fishy, like the erroneous assumption of "She's a stupid girl and won't know any better." I asked around and found an independent mechanic who had a good reputation with transmissions. He fixed my car for under $1000 WITHOUT replacing the tranny.

Hugs, hon - I'm so sorry to hear about the car woes. Let me know if you need a ride anywhere at some point - I should swing by and get more boxes from your driveway anyway, if they're still available.

Actually, I have been meaning to ask you to come get the boxes. Even broke down, the pile is about 4 feet high!

Glad I could be of assistance to you. I'm sorry that the day didn't turn out the way you wanted and was so bad, but I enjoyed having you and your boy over for the afternoon. The kids were really good. :)

Ugh! What rotten luck. Glad there was someone available to rescue you guys. And I agree with the first comment...get a second opinion, that sounds awfully high and I don't even know about cars.

Oh, geez, that so sucks about the car. (hugs) Allegra is looking forward to seeing Rowan again. When might be a good time for us to come by for a visit (since you getting up here won't be too easy for a few more days yet!)?

Ouch! This just doesn't seem to be the month for cars. *comfort*

Thomas' car is completely dead, and mine is not a long distance vehicle by any means, so I don't know when we'll manage to see you next! :(

The girls are with James for three weeks (we get them back August 1st), but we should try to work something out after that, so the kids can get together again.

*gentle hugs* I wish there was a way to make it all easier. I'm glad the kids got to play together. Flexibility on my part was one of the easier things to accomplish. Shall we pick you up for the zoo tomorrow?
