Eight Years Ago Today
May. 20th, 2004 10:13 pmEight years ago today, at sunrise in Iowa City, I watched the birth of my son. Saw him crown, saw him push his way into the world. He was 3 1/2 weeks early and only a little over 3 hours in labor. He was in a hurry to join us. Tiny in body, large in spirit. He was only 5 lbs, 9 oz at birth.
I held him in my arms, only minutes old. He looked at me, he recognized my voice. I recognized him at a level I had never understood before. When his eyes met mine, I opened. Opened wide and let him in. Never had I felt so connected, so completely there for anyone until him.

I have been his ever since. Forever and always, Rowan's MamaDawn.
