One Foot in Front of the Another

purplerabbitStill tired and overwhelmed, but getting through ... with a little help from my friends. Thanks to Tammy & Charles, Michael & Rachael, and Margaret and Ken for the food stuffs. Thanks to Charles, Mark, and Michael for the helping moving things. Thanks to Karen and Rachael for the medical supplies. Thanks to Margaret for helping me with the scariest of the paperwork and some of the cleaning. Thanks to Robin for his donation of funds. And all those who have sent energy and words of encouragement.
Visiting nurse, visiting physical and occupational therapy, visiting doctors and other health care professionals are now coming on a regular basis. Mary is so very happy to be home. As I hoped, her birthday was spent with family. Friends and family have been calling and sending cards. She is working very hard on recovery. Today, for the first time in six months, my mother stood. It was only briefly and holding a walker, but she stood three times! Now I know she will walk again. It will take a while, but it will happen.
I also started my own physical therapy again this week. The first appointment was long and painful. The PT person's evaluation found dozens of "hot spots" -- places that make me cry out they are so painful to touch. I have a lot of work to do as well. Four years and four months after the assault, and my body is still a wreck. The PT even admitted it was really bad. Hips, lower back, chest and neck. Sigh. Then again, how many people get dragged by a car and are able to walk afterward? Of course, what I really lost was Rowan. Not that day, but since.
Unless we find a lawyer to help us, we will only see Rowan two weeks between now and next summer. My heart spasms and it is hard to breath when I think about it. I feel helpless.
One day at a time, it's sill all I can handle yet. Keep working, keep cleaning, keep doing paperwork -- one foot in front of the other.

How is Wednesday afternoon for you? That's my longest stretch of time, after I pick up Allegra from school at 11:40 (at least, unless we put a class for Allegra in there at 4pm--but even so, it would be in Berkeley, so we could conceivably come visit, and then leave at about 3:30).

I'm really sorry to hear that that happened to you, and I hope that in time all the damage is healed and the scars fade as much as you want them to.
