Spending Samhain/Halloween with our Boy

purplerabbitFor several years, Rowan has been asking us to come visit him in Iowa. In particular, he seem set on having us come at Halloween. Partially it is because the fall is our biggest gap in visitation. I also wonder how much of it is the way Rowan and I bond around costuming. We haven't been able to spend Halloween with him since he was 2 years old. We haven't been back to Iowa in the last five years.

airshipjones is between jobs, so things are tight financially. But he has been getting lots of job interviews including several second interviews. He is pretty confident that he will have a new job soon. So we booked tickets today. If we didn't book them today, we would have missed the two week discount rate -- prices double after that. If he can't get the time off from the new job, uncledark and I will go without him.
We fly out on Friday, Oct. 29. We will arrive in Chicago, rent a car and drive to Iowa City. Haven't figured out where we are staying yet, but a motel will work if none of our old friends there offer. We will leave again on Tues, Nov. 1. While there we will have Rowan for the three days and nights. We will be able to attend his Soccer game on Saturday and maybe the local science fiction convention. We are hoping to be able to connect with our dear friends/covenmates who still live in the area. On Halloween, we will go trick or treating with Rowan dressed in his Harry Potter costume.
Our last visits to Iowa were during the difficult and dreadful days of the custody battle. We hope this will be a better visit in a better time. It will be wonderful to be with our son and this seems to mean a great deal to him.
